Le choix du nom de cet ensemble vient du rôle de Mélisande dans l'opéra de Claude Debussy (Pelléas et Mélisande).
C'est Irène Joachim, cantatrice qui a interprété le rôle de Mélisande en 1940 et qui l'a enregistré l'année suivante.
Irène Joachim était la fille du violoniste Joseph Joachim (nom du quatuor cité ci-dessus), considéré comme l'un des plus grands violonistes du XIXème siècle, il était l'ami de Mendelssohn, Liszt, Berlioz, ainsi que du couple Schumann (Robert et Clara).
Zbigniew, Marie Claire et Laurent sont tous les trois solistes de l'orchestre de Picardie.
Ils forment par ailleurs le célèbre quatuor Joachim.
C'est en 1999 que Céline a été invitée la première fois comme harpiste à l'orchestre de Picardie.
Au cours des années et des collaborations (19 ans à ce jour), c'est assez naturellement qu'ils ont fait connaissance et se sont appréciés, tant amicalement que musicalement.
Céline et Marie-Claire se connaissaient déjà depuis leurs études communes au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
C'est au Sein de l'orchestre de Picardie que cet ensemble a pu faire ses premiers concerts pour la saison de musique de chambre de l'orchestre ("les Prières" d'André Caplet pour Quatuor à cordes chant et harpe en 2004, la "sonate en trio" de Claude Debussy pour flûte alto et harpe en 2006 et 2008, Gabriel Pierné et son "voyage au pays du tendre" en trio à cordes, flûte et harpe en 2009,...).
Vincent Lucas (flûte solo de l'orchestre de Paris et concertiste international) les rejoint en 2016 afin de former ce quintette et d'aborder ainsi les œuvres d'Albert Roussel, Vincent D'Indy et Max Méreaux.

Céline and Marie-Claire already knew each other since their joint studies at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris.
It was at the heart of the Picardie orchestra that this ensemble was able to make their first concerts for the chamber music season of the orchestra ("Prayers" by André Caplet for string quartet and harp in 2004, the "trio sonata" by Claude Debussy for alto flute and harp in 2006 and 2008, Gabriel Pierné and his "trip to the land of tender" in string trio, flute and harp in 2009, ...).
Vincent Lucas (solo flute of the Paris orchestra and international concert) joins them in 2016 to form this quintet and to approach the works of Albert Roussel, Vincent D'Indy and Max Méreaux.
